This is a recipe to keep! Oyster Chow is a delicious twist on Puppy Chow/Muddy Buddies using oyster crackers instead of Chex cereal. This brings salty and sweet together in the most perfect way! You’ll be making this for every gathering for years to come!
I’m one of those people who like the taste of classic Puppy Chow but it is sometimes too sweet for me. It just seems like it is missing a little something. I am a big fan of the salty and sweet combination so when I saw a bag of oyster crackers in the back of the cabinet, I thought to myself “Hey! This might just work!”
And I am here to tell you that it did! Not only did it work, it was better than I expected and it is now my go-to version.
What You’ll Need
- 10 oz bag of oyster crackers
- semi-sweet chocolate chips
- creamy peanut butter
- powdered sugar
How to Make Oyster Chow
In a microwave safe bowl, add creamy peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Microwave for 30 seconds, stir and microwave for another 30 seconds. After your second stir, you should have a nice and creamy mixture. If your chocolate chips aren’t quite melted yet, microwave for 15 seconds and stir again.
Add a bag of oyster crackers to a large bowl and pour the chocolate peanut butter mixture over the top. Use a spatula to fold the mixture into the crackers, making sure all pieces are fully covered.
Next up is the powdered sugar! I was feeling fancy so I tossed some in plain powdered sugar and some in powered sugar mixed with a little cocoa powder for a two-toned look. Either way you choose, add the powdered sugar to a gallon sized bag (or bags) and scoop the oyster crackers inside. Seal the bag tightly and shake, shake and shake some more! You may need to gently separate the pieces to make sure you don’t have any large clumps. You want the powdered sugar to coat each piece. Slowly add more powered sugar, about a quarter cup at a time, if you like it extra coated.
And there you have it – your first batch of Oyster Chow! Good thing this recipe is crazy easy and fast because you’ll be making it many more times, I’m sure!
This batch makes about 5 cups, but you may want to double it for a holiday gathering or party because it goes FAST!
