Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Everyone needs a tried and true go-to recipe – and this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is it! I have made it so many times that I don’t even need to look at the recipe anymore.

The bread is dense and moist and packed with chocolate chips. Sometimes I think I should call this “Mood” bread because if you aren’t in the mood for chocolate, you can certainly leave it out. I’ve made this same recipe using pecans, peanut butter chips, raisins, you name it! But I must admit, there aren’t many times that I’m not in the mood for chocolate chips! I think my kids will back me up on this one, too.

Another reason I love making this, aside from the ease and delicious taste, is that it is so cheap to make. Bananas are low in cost and you might already have everything else in your pantry already! Can you believe that I found bananas on sale for 9 cents/lb once? I bought SO many of them that day!! Once the bananas are ripe, you can either freeze them just how they are or make this recipe and freeze the bread. That way you have something ready to go when you need to bring a sweet treat with you somewhere. I bring this bread to work A LOT – everyone raves about it!

Pans like this are great when making a lot for the freezer or to give away!

Let’s Get Started

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Ingredients

Since this is banana bread, we’ll obviously need some very ripe bananas. I usually add 2 or 3, depending on the size, and mash them in a medium sized bowl. To that, we will add: flour, sugar, egg, butter, baking soda, and melted butter and give it a good mix with a spatula.

Pro tip: If you only want to clean one bowl, melt the butter first. Then you can add your bananas and other ingredients to that instead of melting the butter in a separate bowl.

Once your batter is mixed, add in the chocolate chips (or your addition of choice) and stir them in.

Banana Bread Batter

Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and sprinkle a few extra chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. I stick a toothpick in the center to make sure the batter is fully cooked in the center. Once out of the oven, let the Chocolate Chip Banana Bread cool in it’s pan completely before enjoying!

How long does Chocolate Chip Banana Bread last?

Wrapped in cling wrap or stored in a tightly sealed container, this will keep fresh on the counter for 5 days.

Can I freeze Chocolate Chip Banana Bread?

YES! I highly recommend it! Let the banana bread cool completely in the foil pan. Wrap in cling wrap and then wrap again in foil. This will last 3 months in the freezer! If you REALLY want to plan ahead, you can even slice the bread and wrap them individually before putting them in the freezer. This will allow you to take out a slice or two throughout the week to enjoy with your morning coffee or as a late night snack!
