If you don’t like the description of spicy, garlic and onions, you might want to run while you can. I’m not one to turn people away from one of my recipes, but this hot salsa really packs a punch!!
I love this recipe because it is really easy to make a small batch (like I will list today) but it is just as easy to double it for larger parties. Taco Tuesday, anyone?!
This hot salsa really reminds me of a mixture between salsa and that really hot sauce that you beg for at a Mexican restaurant to pour all over the next bite of your burrito. I love it just like it is, but I will admit (okay, brag) I have been successful in growing habanero peppers this year and I am looking forward to see how I can incorporate that for a different twist!
This recipe only takes about 5 minutes to make so it is perfect for those last minute chips and salsa cravings.
The Ingredients
We are using canned tomatoes and green chilies for this one (Rotel). By bringing onion, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic and a squeeze of lime into this it will give it that amazing fresh taste you are looking for. The only seasonings needed are salt and cumin.
Minimal Prep Work
There is a small amount of work to be done in order to get this to a great consistency. Chopping the veggies.
I like to rough chop the jalapeno, onion, and cilantro before this goes into the blender. I’ve tried not doing this step. It only results in the canned tomatoes turning into somewhat of a paste before the veggies are chopped enough. Don’t get me wrong, it still tastes great, but we want it to look great, too!
Once the veggies are chopped, dump all ingredients (minus the salt) into the blender and give it a few pulses to finely chop and incorporate all of the flavors.
This is my all time FAVORITE blender. I have made so many great salsas, sauces, and meals with this thing. And as a bonus: it is SO easy to clean!
When it is blended, give it a taste and see if you need to add a few sprinkles of salt. I always seem to add a dash, but you may not find it necessary.
How yummy does this look?! There are still little chunks of onion and jalapeno left to give it some texture and it has tons of fresh cilantro.
This will keep fresh up to a week in the fridge – if it even lasts past the first day!
